Central Board of Secondary Education has released the results for Class 10 and Class 12 in the month of May/June. As per the CCE (Continuous & Comprehensive Evaluation) system of evaluation produce, CBSE announced the result in CGPA format. CGPA stands for Cumulative Grade Point Average. It is the average grade points achieved in all subjects by a students, excluding the additional 6th subject.
As per the grading system, minimum qualifying grade for passing the board exam is grade D. Students who have scored E1 or E2 grades, will have to sit for re-examination within a month after the announcement of the results.

How to Calculate Percentage from CGPA?
To convert CGPA into percentage, multiply the CGPA with 9.5 to get the overall indicative percentage. Now students might think, why multiply with 9.5 only. Your senior toppers of CBSE board have a contribution in it. Here’s why. The Board analyzed the result of the last five years and calculated the average marks of all candidates who had scored between 91 and 100. That average turned out to be close to 95 marks. Since the equivalent Grade Point for the 91-100 band (A1 grade) of marks is 10, it then divided the average result of 95 by 10. The result is 9.5.
The board disclaims that the percentage is only an approximation and not exact percentage.
To understand it in a better way, let’s take an example to convert CGPA to GPA:
Suppose the student scored
Subject 1 – 9
Subject 2 – 10
Subject 3 – 9
Subject 4 – 7.5
Subject 5 – 8
So, now the sum of the Grade Points (GP) will be : 9+8+7.5+9+10 = 43.5
Dividing the sum with 5 will be 43.5 / 5 = 8.7
8.7 is the CGPA of the student.
To find out the approximate percentage, multiply the CGPA with 9.5
that is, 9.7 x 9.5 = 82.65%
So, the approximate percentage obtained by a student is 82.65%.
How to Convert CGPA to Percentage?
So an indicative equivalent percentage of the grade point can be calculated as:
Subject wise percentage = Grade point (GP) obtained by the student x 9.5
And the overall percentage of marks = 9.5 x CGPA
