Significance

  • Micro, small and medium enterprises are called the backbone of our economy. These enterprises are engines of inclusive development.
  • After the agricultural sector, most people find employment in this sector. This sector generates more employment opportunities at a lower cost of capital.
  • And the most important thing about this sector is that it creates jobs in rural and backward areas.

 

World Biofuel Day

  • It is observed every year on 10th August
  • The aim is to create awareness about the importance of non-fossil fuels as an alternative to conventional fossil fuels
  • The World Biofuel Day is being observed by the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas for the last three years.

 

Measures taken by Government

  • Initiating Administrative price mechanism for ethanol,
  • Simplifying the procurement procedures of OMCs,
  • Amending the provisions of Industries (Development & Regulation) Act, 1951
  • Enabling lignocellulosic route for ethanol procurement.
  • Government approved the National Policy on Biofuels-2018
    • The policy has the objective of reaching 20% ethanol-blending and 5% biodiesel-blending by the year 2030.
    • Among other things, the policy expands the scope of feedstock for ethanol production and has provided for incentives for production of advanced biofuels.

 

Significance

  • Biofuels have the benefits of reducing import dependency on crude oil,
  • Cleaner environment,
  • Additional income to farmers and
  • Employment generation in rural areas.
  • The biofuels programme is also in synergy with the Government of India initiatives for Make in India, Swachh Bharat and enhancing farmers’ income.

 

Pratibandhit Sahitya Mein Swatantrata Sangram

Context

  • There is exhibition of Freedom Movement through Proscribed Literature festival in the premises of National Archives of India, in New Delhi.

 

Details

  • The exhibition is an attempt to sensitize the young generations of the sacrifices and contributions of these martyrs in our freedom struggle and to inculcate the spirit of patriotism in them.
  • This exhibition of proscribed literature is from vast collection of poetry and prose that portrays the nationalistic fervour prevalent in the days of freedom struggle.

 

National Archives of India

  • It is an Attached Office under the Ministry of Culture.

 

Operation ‘Madad’

  • Operation “Madad” has been launched by the Southern Naval Command (SNC) at Kochi
  • It is for assisting the state administration and undertaking disaster relief operations due to the unprecedented flooding experienced in many parts of Kerala

 

Longitudinal Ageing Study in India (LASI)

  • The main goal of LASI project is to collect credible scientific data on burden of disease, mental health, functional health, health care and social and economic well being of elderly population.
  • The data is being collected based on internationally comparable research design, tools and adopting cutting edge scientific methods to provide the foundation for credible and acceptable data – for National and State level policy making and long- term scientific research.
  • LASI project will provide data on demographics, household economic status, health and bio-markers, health insurance and health care utilization, family and social network, social welfare programmes, work and employment, retirement and pension, life satisfaction and expectations.

 

National Programme for the Health Care for the Elderly

  • It is an articulation of the International and national commitments of the Government as envisaged under the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD), National Policy on Older Persons (NPOP) adopted by the Government of India in 1999 & Section 20 of “The Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007” dealing with provisions for medical care of Senior Citizen

  • To provide accessible, affordable, and high-quality long-term, comprehensive and dedicated care services to an Ageing population;

 

Specific Objectives

  • To provide an easy access to promotional, preventive, curative and rehabilitative services to the elderly through community based primary health care approach
  • To identify health problems in the elderly and provide appropriate health interventions in the community with a strong referral backup support.
  • To build capacity of the medical and paramedical professionals as well as the care-takers within the family for providing health care to the elderly.
