Highlights of PM Narendra Modi’s Mann ki Baat address:
- Just a few days ago, we celebrated our Republic Day with great fervor. This is the first time in history that heads of 10 Nations attended the ceremony.
- It is great to see that women in India are excelling in every field.
- Kalpana Chawla inspired women all over the world.
- It is in our culture to respect women. In our ancient Sanskrit teachings, it is stated that the blessings we get from the almighty if we have one baby girl is equal to that of having 10 baby boys.
- If India has to progress and reach new heights, it can only be possible only if and when women walk shoulder-to-shoulder with men, and in fact lead the way.
- PM mentioned the Matunga Railway station which is an all-women station. All leading officials there are women.
- PM appreciated the women of Dantewada in Chhattisgarh. This is a Maoist affected area but the women there are operating e-rickshaws. This is creating opportunities, it is also changing the face of the region and is also environment friendly.
- PM mentioned about Mission Clean Morna river, which involved more than six thousand denizens of Akola (Maharashtra) more than 100 NGOs, Colleges, Students involved.
Beating the Retreat 2018Â
- This year, Indian tunes will be the flavour of ‘Beating the Retreat’ ceremony.
- Bands from the Army, the Navy, the Air Force and the State Police and Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) will perform.
- Out of the 26 performances, 25 tunes have been composed by Indian musicians and the only western tune will be ‘Abide with me’. The event will come to a close with the ever-popular tune of ‘Sare Jahan se Acha’. Beating retreat ceremony

- It officially marks the end of Republic day festivities.
- The President of India will be the chief guest.
Winners of Republic Day Parade
- Raksha Mantri Smt Nirmala Sitharaman gave away Republic Day Parade 2018 best contingent and tableau awards.
- Punjab Regiment Contingent was awarded the best marching contingent.
- Tableau from Maharashtra depicting coronation of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was awarded the first prize.
