What is the full form of MMR?

The full form of MMR is Measles, Mumps and Rubella. It applies to the shot or vaccination against measles, mumps & rubella. There is a presence of a combination of three live attenuated viruses in this vaccination and it is administered through the injection. In the 1960s, it was first created by Maurice Hilleman. This vaccination avoids the following three diseases.

Measles

It’s also named as rubeola. It is a respiratory tract viral illness. It is a disease that is contagious.

Symptoms of measles

Early symptoms are

  • Fever
  • Dry cough
  • Rash
  • Runny nose
  • Red or watery eyes
  • Later, it may lead to pneumonia, brain damage and even death.

Mumps

It is a viral infection caused by a virus. It is a contagious disease .by saliva, nasal secretions or near physical contact; the infected person may transfer the virus to some other individual.

Rubella

It is sometimes referred to as three-day measles or German measles. It is a contagious illness caused by a virus called rubella.

Initial symptoms

  • Rash
  • Fever
  • Sore throat
  • Swollen lymph nodes and so on.

The Common Side Effects of MMR Vaccinations

At the age of one year, kids are provided with the first dose of the MMR vaccine. The second dose of the vaccine is administered at the age of four or five years to children who are unable to develop immunity after the first dose. Few common side effects are listed below.

Headache

  • Mild rash
  • Fever
  • Sore arm from the vaccination
  • Pain & stiffness in the joints
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea & vomiting and so on.
