Section I: Events and Processes
This section consists of the first two chapters which will trace history. Students will understand how the idea of nationalism emerged in Europe, how territories were unified, and national governments formed. In these 2 chapters many wars and revolutions, many ideological battles and political conflicts are described in detail.
Section II: Livelihoods, Economies and Societies
Section II focuses on economies and livelihoods. In Class 9 students have read about social groups – pastoralists and forest dwellers – who are often seen as survivors from past times, when in fact they are very much part of the modern world we live in. In Class 10 focus will be given to topics like developments that are seen as symbolising modernity, globalisation and industrialisation.
Section III: Everyday Life, Culture and Politics
Section III will introduce students to the history of print culture. It consists of Chapter 5 which will trace how the history of the contemporary world is intimately connected with the growth of print.
Students will know how printing made possible the spread of information and ideas, debates and discussions, advertising and propaganda, and a variety of new forms of literature.
