What is the full form of IL&FS?

The full form of IL&FS is Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services. It is India’s largest infrastructure growth and finance business. Its mission is to take part in the nation’s growth and prosperity through the development of pioneering high-standard technology and the provision of innovative financial products to India’s customers.

In 1987, it was established & supported by CBI (Central Bank of India), HDFC(Housing Development Finance Corporation Limited) and UTI (Unit Trust of India).

IL&FS has undertaken a range of projects in various sectors such as transport, power, e-governance, water, urban infrastructure, finance, education, etc. Few of its notable projects are described below.

  • In the North East, the world’s largest CDM power project was carried out with the support & assistance of IL&FS.
  • The very first large-scale PPP water supply program in India and the world’s biggest ZLD scheme.
  • A portable multimedia machine provided in rural India to allow community-learning possible.
  • The longest & safest road tunnel in India is along the Jammu-Srinagar highway.
  • A 300-year-old water palace that is Jal Mahal was renovated in Rajasthan with the support and guidance of IL & FS.
  • Through the static clinic & mobile medical unit, Health Treatment in Cuddalore
  • Industrial Stitching Training is provided to female.
  • Helping women farmers in J&K by developing crops, playhouses, systems of drip irrigation, and so on.
  • Promoting hill farming by modern techniques such as drip irrigation, vermicomposting, plastic mulching and tray nurseries, and so on.
  • Solar lights in villages were built in the Himalayan region in the catchment areas.
